FAQ
What is a Bernedoodle?
A Bernedoodle is a combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a poodle. You end up with 50% of both breeds and gain the amazing, fluffy look of a doodle with the calm, gentle disposition of the Bernese dog.

What is an F1B
What we breed here at Lavender Hill Doodles are F1b Bernedoodles. This means we take our beautiful Bernedoodle and breed her back to a miniature poodle to get 75% percent of the poodle and 25% of the Bernese Mountain Dog. Why would we do this? By breeding back to a miniature poodle we are decreasing size and increasing both color variation and coat textures to our dogs. We love the unique color and coat variations from the poodle that add to the individual personalities of our dogs while being able to maintain the calm, gentle temperament of the Bernese. This also allows families who suffer from allergies the possible option of adopting a pet. While we don't guarantee them to be hypoallergenic they tend to be with this pairing. Our dogs will max out at 15-20lbs.

How does this impact the health of a dog?
We purchased Freya from a local breeder (Hilltop bernedoodles of Chehalis.) Both Freya's mother and father were genetically tested and cleared dogs. This was important to us! We bred to Binx who is also from Hilltop Bernedoodles and he is genetically clear as well. By this pairing we are producing healthy dogs and provide a health guarantee. Combining a healthy Bernese Mountain Dog with a genetically healthy poodle you are getting Hybrid Vigor. Bernedoodles have this and you can read more about it here-

How Many dogs do you breed?
We currently have just one female. This was something started for the joy of sharing these beautiful dogs as well as something for our children to be able to love. We value our small set up so we are able to have our puppies IN our home throughout their time with us!

What does your puppy set up look like?
Our dogs are whelped in our home. They are right in the center of our family life and handled all throughout the day by us and our children. Starting at three days of age we implement Early Neurological Stimulation. This includes holding the puppy in different positions as well as actively handling them and playing with ears/toes. As they grow they are introduced to different sounds that can be startling such as vacuuming, dishes clanging and the normal clatter of a busy home. With all this we are raising well adjusted dogs. We introduce a litter pan in the whelping box at 3 weeks of age and they quickly figure this out! No, the litter box does not make it difficult to transition them to potty training outdoors but actually facilitates this, dogs naturally don't like to potty in their living space. They get playtime outdoors under close supervision, lots of holding during the day and extra snuggles (especially on family movie night!)

What Else Should I know?
Bringing home one of our puppies requires that we receive an application. We like to know where our dogs are going to make sure it is a good fit for both you and the dog. We put a lot of love into these puppies! It is important for the new family to know that Bernedoodles are low, to no shedding and will require regular grooming every 6 to 8 weeks. They also need a brushing session from their loved ones in between those groomings. Bernedoodles have calm, family oriented personalities and need the companionship of their owners. These dogs are friendly, lovable and tend to be on the quieter side.

What does your adoption process look like?
After deciding you are ready for one of our dogs you will submit an Adoption Application on our main page. After filling this out we schedule a phone conversation and a puppy playdate where you are able to see our dogs and meet our family. A deposit is placed for your desired puppy if it is available. Puppies go home at 8 weeks of age. We send home a copy of our contract, vet check/vaccine record, current food the puppy is eating and a blanket with litter mates smell to help with transition!
